ABOUT
AQUAGAS has its roots in Hamrin Adsorption och Filterteknik, a company that has been at the forefront of compression, adsorption, purification, and filtration technology since the 1970s. In the 1990s, Atlas Copco Compressor acquired the Hamrin brand and its industrial compressed air purification solutions. However, the business focused on hydrogen purification systems was transferred in 1998 to a newly established entity—AQUAGAS Sweden AB.
With over 50 years of expertise in hydrogen purification technology, AQUAGAS has become a trusted partner for some of the most innovative companies in the renewable energy sector. The cutting-edge solutions continue to drive progress in clean energy, helping to shape a sustainable future.

AQUAGAS evolution
Since the early 1980s, AQUAGAS has developed and manufactured advanced purification systems based on adsorption and catalytic technologies for process gases, including hydrogen. The journey took off in the mid-80s with the first order from Norsk Hydro (now Nel), marking the beginning of a close collaboration that continues to this day. Norsk Hydro was a pioneer in developing systems for storing and utilizing hydrogen as an energy carrier.
In the early 2000s, AQUAGAS was invited to contribute to this pioneering work. In 2003, the first hydrogen purification system was delivered for a public refueling station in Iceland, built by Norsk Hydro. AQUAGAS purification systems meet the stringent quality standards set by the automotive industry, ensuring hydrogen is purified to the levels required for use in fuel cell vehicles.
Today, AQUAGAS works with industry leaders in purifying and compressing gases from all around the world. Some of the trusted partners include Plug, UTIS, Linde, Messer, Siemens Energy, and ITM.
Norsk Hydro (now Nel) built the public refueling system in Iceland, where AQUAGAS delivered the first hydrogen purification system in 2000.
